Best photo editing software for Ubuntu - Linux

Recently, I migrated from Windows to Ubuntu 10.04. Generally, I was very much habituated to windows 7 and got lot of problems in new Ubuntu OS. In between, I also felt the need for a good graphic editor for my blog and other stuff but I was with nothing. Then while browsing through forums, I got to know about GIMP software tool and downloaded it. Finally, it worked like a charm as well as it fulfilled all of my needs which I felt as lacking in this new Linux operating system.

Why GIMP?

Well, I have a very straight answer for this question. In Linux, I'm not aware of other graphic tools, but based on my personal experience, I got everything in GIMP which I basically need to edit a graphic at both basic & advance level.

How to install GIMP?

Installing GIMP on your Ubuntu OS is simple though. Simply run following command in your Ubuntu terminal:

sudo apt-get install gimp

Features of GIMP:

Feature 1: It comes with default toolbox which has many options to edit image using various shapes and tools.

Feature 2: Same like Photoshop, Gimp also have layer system introduced in it. You can create new layers, duplicate those already existing and other layer related stuff.

Similarly, there is so much to explore in this software. More you explore, more you will get. Seriously, I was confused on what feature to write next as there are so many features available under this software. So, I'm leaving it on you. Try it once if you are using Linux but not using Gimp. You will like it definitely.

Thanks!
